Teaching Methodology

Training of Power sector Engineering personnel and technical staff :

The Institutes curricula, teaching and training programs, extramural activities, interactions with industry and community and academic ambience ensure that its training possess:

  • Sound theoretical knowledge in Power Distribution professional field.

  • Ability to apply knowledge gained in the Institute, or acquired through their own efforts and experience, to the workplace for solution of a given problem in a cost- and time-efficient manner (e.g. fully trained in problem solving techniques). Special emphasize on reducing AT&C Losses , increasing revenue collection, increasing CRPU, ERP , MDAS, AMR etc

  • Capacity to learn new skills and procedures such as SCADA and Distribution automation , Smart Grid , GIS, ERP etc and an attitude for life-long learning and remaining abreast in their own specialization.

  • Ability to design a system, component or process to meet desired needs such as distribution system planning and optimization.

  • Highly developed communication skills, both oral and written, and an ability to prepare and present reports at short notice.

  • Capacity to work with minimum supervision and an ability to take decisions.

  • Ability to function harmoniously in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural groups, and develop a high level of interpersonal skills.

  • Skills to identify problems and innovate solutions to challenges in power sector.

  • Understanding of professional and ethical responsibility as power sector engineer.

  • Understanding of the impact of engineering solutions in a global/societal and environmental context.

  • Knowledge of contemporary social, economic, and technological issues.

  • Entrepreneurial ability for starting new ventures.

  • Understanding of IPR and exposure to international management practices.

  • Ability to use the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for power sector engineering practice.

Training of Power sector Management and office assistants personnel :

The overarching objective of the management program training curriculum is to develop well balanced business executives in power sector adept at linking economic growth with accompanying social development. Thus such managers would be at ease in transcending profit motive and move on further to enhance creation of an equitable society. Therefore, the Management professional will look at ethical way of doing business, display individual and corporate social responsibility, and would be conscious of sustainable business practices. All their actions will be entrepreneurial and innovative in nature so as to create new paradigms of socio-economic development.

At the end of the program, the trainees will be equipped with:

  • Understanding of link between business and society.

  • Knowledge and skills in each functional area of management

  • Ability to apply entrepreneurial and innovative practices for solving problems and issues

  • Analytical ability for solving complex business problems and developing action plans
